Why Peru?

Peru initially wasn’t a place I knew about or had had on my bucket list for years, I originally wanted to go to Chichen Itza in Mexico but one day while looking through some travel brochures I saw a picture of Machu Picchu.

I instantly fell in love and knew this was a place I had to visit. Soon enough this became reality and I have now visited Peru a total of 6 times, 5 of these in the past 6 years.

It was the first non English speaking country I travelled to and at the time I knew no Spanish only French!!

Lima then was a busy scary city for me and not a place I bonded with, though nowadays it’s very different to back then.

Once I arrived though in Cusco and met the group I would be hiking the Inca Trail with I felt at easy and at home.

Since then it has always been in mind, the kindness and smiles of all the people I met during my time there.

When I quit work to travel nearly 7 years ago, I decided to do a 6 month trip to South America starting in Peru. I wanted to continue my spanish studies that I had started after my first trip to Peru and enrolled in Spanish classes in Arequipa.

I initially stayed with a host family but as it quite far from the centre of town I decided to stay in the hostel where the classes were taught.

I initially signed up for 1 month and ended up staying 2 months, before I decided that as I had quit work to travel, I actually should travel and not get stuck in the first place I had arrived.

After that I travelled around Peru and visited for the first time, the place I now call home, Huanchaco. It’s a surf town in northern Peru and a place many people get stuck!! I don’t surf, though have vowed this summer to try!!

As I have travelled the world in the last nearly 7 years, nowhere else has drawn me back to it or made me feel as at home as Peru.

There is certainly something special about it, the friendly people, the amazing food, the diversity of the landscapes.

As Peru is my passion and the place I enjoy most writing about, I wanted a website dedicated to everything I know about this amazing country. I currently have a travel blog ilive4travel where I have some posts on Peru but also other the countries around the world I have travelled to.

I want to be able to help people plan there trips to Peru, give them advice on places and things to do, so that everyone loves and enjoys the country as much as I do.

I want this site, to be a place where you can get all the information you need on Peru without needing to go anywhere else.
